Shelter Loves 11.15.12

Here's what I'm pinning, loving, pinning this week. If you're looking for more design inspiration be sure to follow my boards on Pinterest. In the meantime here's the skinny on the bling above!

1. Stylistically J.Crew pretty much nails it for me, mix in an edgy pair of faux leather pants and I'm all set wearing almost anything from their site! I may need to add this necklace to my bauble collection. Being a single momma I don't get much for Christmas, (really I'm ok with that) I guess that doesn't mean I can't buy a present for my self once in a while! ;)
2. I love Barrie Benson's designs and this red door at her home is AMAZING, hardware and ALL!
3. Lauren Merkin's clutch is the perfect staple for any wardrobe! I have about six clutches that I rotate when going out, I'm loving this embossed lizard kelly green beauty.
4. Scattering bowls of vintage ornaments is a great way to add some holiday flair to your home.
5. Oh Tory, I do love your shoes!! And your shoe boxes for that matter.
6. This is a clever idea, remove your closet for a stylish console, that's if you can give up the coat storage. I'm loving the pulls on this piece!
7. My newest style icon?? Giovanna Battaglia, she's fierce and fearless. I love that.
8. Wish list! See #1, for thoughts on the matter. via Kate Spade

Surely Chic, {room of the week}

Celerie Kemble certainly didn't hold back when designing the model apartment for N.Y.'s upper east side Manhattan House. I especially love the dramatic foyer and living area! These rooms aren't for the faint of heart but they do prove you really can't go wrong with black, taupe, gray and white..{she throws a hint of coral in to break things up, well done Celerie - adoring your work lately!}

I'm certainly ready to roll out some fresh new designs this year but my design magazines haven't been inspiring me much lately.  One trend that I am still holding on to is stripes! I especially love them when they are layered! I must own five striped shirts, I mix them with everything! {I also HAVE to use that pinstriped closet door idea above -  maybe if I move, I'm thinking girlie boudoir??}

Friday Finds - Happy Weekend!

I just love simple peg + rail hooks in an entrance. I also love this Malibu beach home.
The Coastal Living editor's did a great job defining their beach style.
WHICH STYLE ARE YOU MOST LIKE?

Resort Glam?

Poolside Preppy?

Beachy Boho?

Please don't hesitate to comment for product info!

I'd say I fall under the Resort Glam mix..although I like items on all three lists. {including that amazing Kate Spade keswick caning bracelet, Samuel's black and white sun hat +Anya Hindmarch striped straw tote!}

Welcome Home

Ahhh, the entry or more formally referred to as the foyer..It's the last room you {whether it be you or a guest} see before departing and the first room you are greeted with upon arriving. The foyer should set the tone for your entire home both functionally and aesthetically. So let's look at what most of these spaces have in common.

1. A place to momentarily drop your keys and mail {the key word being momentarily - be weary of the clutter bug}
2. A mirror of some sort, looking glasses are good for two reasons. For one, they visually expand the space, but more importantly mirrors allow for a quick glimpse of your pretty face.
3. A seat! The perfect spot to take shoes off and put shoes on.
4. Lighting, whether it be a table lamp, ceiling mounted fixture, a sconce or all three; good lighting is crucial. {and remember layered light is the most appealing}
5. A beautiful table-scape or a "moment" for flowers, found objects, artwork, comfy pillows...there are countless creative options.
6. Storage for the necessities of life!

A thank you to Ivy Lane. I knew Tom Scheerer's work but hadn't visited his site in a while, see her blog for a recent post on the designer.

FOYER - REVAMP

My stairway and hallway (my hallway is much smaller) look very similar to this image. I've always wanted to have a zebra runner... so that is my starting point....the runner is deep chocolate + cream.

So, I'm sure you've heard this all before, but interior designers have no problem refining + building upon their fabulous ideas for clients, but when it comes to their home it gets a little tricky. I am drawn to so many beautiful objects and styles, my options feel limitless but my budget is not. My foyer/entrance/stairway are in dire need of an update, so I'm in the process of putting together some concepts + ideas. I love to mix classic + modern, new + vintage, to create spaces with a neutral background but add doses of color for depth + interest. Here is what I've pulled together so far, please feel free to comment!!!
I want to cover two entry windows with banded roman's in kelly green with a deep turquoise band or a mix of those two colors in some way... I am currently sourcing a linen..

Possible bench fabric - a place to sit + remove shoes etc.
Fabric- Alan Campbell - Cintra ( need to verify scale of print = it may need to be larger)

Inspired by this table...I am going to paint the one pictured below in a glossy black finish.

This was my grandmother's piece..

I want to bring some color in with the lamp...I thought this was interesting, its green and turquoise... two of the colors I use through-out my home.
Lamp: First Dibs, Found

Mirror Choices

Option 1 - Large clean lined mirror for behind entrance table
Image: Ikea

Option 2 - Large antiqued mirror for over and behind entrance table
Image: Z Gallerie

Possible entrance ceiling mounted fixture...Love to infuse every space with a bit of sparkle.

I've already started a large photo wall and am mixing black and white frames with color + black and white photos.. This may take a while to finish, I want it to look as if it's evolved..

I own this very large pendant, so I plan to hang it in the stairway for a dash of drama.
HOPE YOU ARE HAVING A GREAT MONDAY!!
