Pretty pink, please

I started my day off with a delightful client meeting. She embraced her own style and wasn't afraid of color! Her home had loads of character and she had a great eye for one of a kind vintage finds! That's always a bonus in my world. We got to talking about colors for her home, prints, schemes and all that design "stuff", which got me thinking about the idea of introducing one colorful upholstered piece into a room. I think pops of color look best balanced with neutrals, and moments of peace, not everything in your design should shout for equal attention.

Come March, I crave the shades of pretty blooms and fresh grass. I definitely think I see a pink upholstered "something" in my near future and hopefully home! I've been saving an array of inspirational images this winter....

I helped choose this punchy pink shade with white piping for my friend Sarah, from Lil Hoot blog. (Sarah has fabulous taste! How cute is this photo of her french bulldogs?)

These metal chair's look fab in pink. Hmm, not sure if that's an actual shutter but it feels out of place to me!

Shades of green

I've been running around like cray cray today with a three year old in tow trying to pull some last minute details together for a photo shoot tomorrow. You probably look at the styled glossy magazines and the pretty pinterest shots almost as much as I do. I can tell you first hand it takes a LOT of work to get those perfect pics!

One of the perks of my job is to scan and analyze images almost daily and I've been thinking about and dog earring green chairs for years now. I think I'd have to go with Emerald, do you have a favorite? I may be silent tomorrow.. but promise to return Thursday with this week's favorites post..

LBD

or Little Black Desk! Well in this case, not all the desks are "little", I decided to go with the title anyways. I'm currently eyeing black desks. You can't really go wrong with a high gloss black finish in almost any piece of furniture or cabinetry. These desks would all steal the show in any room. You can't drop a ton of money? Look out for vintage desks at flea markets and on the side of the road. A few cans of high gloss paint, work wonders for tired furniture!

Giving Back - After

A couple of weeks ago I posted about an event I took part in to raise money and awareness of the furniture bank for the Mass Coalition for the homeless. Well I'm happy to say it was a great success, we raised $6,000 for the cause and had a great time doing so. My good friend and fellow blogger Danika Herrick of Gorgeous Shiny Things set up an entire room. I chose a vintage piece of furniture from their furniture bank and revamped it for the auction. Here are the before and after shots. A big thank you to Ace Hardware for donating the paint for this project.

BEFORE: A tired Lane Furniture table.

AFTER: I needed to choose a gender neutral shade, so I chose a color from Ace's: Colors for Your Life paint deck - Shady Lane - A36-6 (semi-gloss finish) but I had them mix it in Ace Hardware's Clark+Kensington, paint+primer in one line.  I used gold leaf paint on the inside of the handle and leg caps.

Cottage Love 4

I guess I'm cheating a wee bit because architecturally speaking this isn't a cottage, but it still has a bit of chic cottage feel to me with it's mix of high and low - old and new vibe! Either way I like the graphic quality (I'm actually about to shoot a project where I used a similar Kelly Wearstler rug), color use and the overall look of this home by designer Maria Barros. It's featured in the October/November 12' issue of Adore Magazine. 

These dining chairs are killer.....I need to find the original designer but for a similar look: Milo Baughman originals pop up on 1st dibs now and then. You'd have to search for a correct dining height.

If I ever need them in my life, these bar stools are on my wish list. They also come in cream leather,  which would be my first choice! Find them here.

I have to say one of my favorite aspects of having my own design business and blogging is the number of kind people I've gotten to know through the web. The design world is smaller then you realize and has put me in contact with a diversity of interesting people that have now become business and blogging friends. It could be in part because we share much in common including our aesthetic, appreciation for great design and the desire to grow and run our own business while trying to juggle a zillion other things! Heather Hogan Roberts of Ivy and Vine has absolutely become one of those friends. She's got fabulous style and is doing an amazing job of growing and running Ivy and Vine, all while being a great mommy to her little ones. Heather spends her days hand selecting and re-inventing vintage and classic pieces for your home.  I love her one of a kind picks, they'll truly transform any space.
