Palm Beach Style

For as long as I can remember I've wanted to retire someplace warm, I'm not wishing my life away but I figure there's no time like the present to start planning for tomorrow.  I love the colorful, vintage vibe that Palm Beach fashion and interior design style exudes.
You can bet in 30 years during the winter months, I'll be basking poolside sipping tequila kissed libations.  In any case there's no reason I can't channel this chic style all summer long! Below are the details and the links!

California Cottage Style

I like LOVE myself a little bit of cool, relaxed california cottage style! I'd love to find (not an easy task in the N.E.) a home with an open floor plan, beamed ceiling and a board and batten facade.

a pattern: white, crisp + clean

I not only love pinterest for its great boards and storage capabilities. It's also an amazing way to get a sense of a client's vision and tastes. It makes my day when my client is thrilled with a presentation and says "you nailed it", as one did last week. For my own boards, I love how a pattern emerges for my own style. It's never intentional. I have thousands of pins but when I was looking at my architectural/exterior boards, I noticed I'd pinned over a dozen all white houses. I love the clean lines and timelessness of an all white house. Here's a few from my boards. On my own house I would pop the front door with a bright color. If you have shutters they could be painted, white or black. I think both look beautiful depending on the look you are going for. 

I think this could be my dream house! I love the approach, warm lighting and the clean white lines. I would need a green flat patch of grass someplace, but this house is gorgeous.

If I painted my house all white, I would add a splash of color on the front door!

This dutch door is great! Bugs might be an issue in Massachusetts!

Inspired - Warren Platner

This circulation space is beautifully utilized as a library. It's the perfect example of how a designer should consider the verticality and all four walls plus the ceiling when designing a space.

The gold leaf wall with the textural globes pictured above is gorgeous!

Warren Planter (1919-2006) was a modernist who practiced interior design and architecture in the 1960's and 70's.

He's best known for his Warren Platner chair, stool and table, designs for Knoll. The sculptural bases are made from nickel covered steel rods.  His interiors and designs were graceful, elegant and had softer lines then the work by his modernist peers. "As a designer, I felt there was room for the kind of decorative, gentle, graceful kind of design that appeared in period style like Louis XV ."

I would love the opportunity to incorporate a Warren Platner table in a transitional setting.

of note: at the MFA

I'm a bit of an art enthusiast, I'm sure that doesn't come as a surprise, I write a design blog right? I was thrilled when invited to attend two separate private showings at the newly opened Art of the Americas wing at the Boston MFA. First off the newly designed wing was a much needed and anticipated addition. Simply put, it's a breath of fresh air. I love the fusion of old and new. The dialogue between the original building built in 1909 {a number of additions were added in the early 1900's.} and the new building designed by Foster and Partners of London is spectacular. Last night I attended the opening of Fresh Ink, an exhibit displaying ten artist's modern interpretation of a traditional piece of Chinese art. It was an engaging show that runs through mid-February.

The Modern Farmhouse

I'm packing up the kiddies and heading up North to Vermont for the week, it's my last hurrah this summer...Vermont evokes so many thoughts but one is definitely farmhouse, another is relaxation..this home blends the two, architecturally it's such cool interpretation of a "modern farmhouse" - I would mix up the furniture a bit..{but that's just me ;)}!

Resolutions!

Honestly, this time of year can get a little depressing in New England; the extra chilly weather is just setting in, the scale is tipping in the wrong direction, my house is usually a post holiday disaster!!

Thank goodness for New Year's resolutions, they motivate and feel like a fresh start, and when they actually come to fruition it's quite satisfying....

I'm feeling great about 2010 and am of course very excited to meet our new baby bundle arriving this month!!

So onto my 2010 resolutions.....

ONE. to focus on saving to purchase a pretty home close to the beach!

TWO. To travel to Paris with my husband for my birthday. {In October}. I've been to France but never to the city of lights....

THREE. I read Julie and Julia in 2008 but saw the movie just last night. Julia Child's story is very inspiring. I've always loved to cook but haven't been very motivated in the kitchen lately. I hope to refine my cooking skills, entertain more and try some new techniques and recipes in 2010. {all while sipping new wine selections}

FOUR. Is to purge and organize my "stuff" and life!

How great is this closet? It belongs to Nicole from the amazing blog "Making it Lovely" The cabinet is available here through IKEA.

To have a small dresser just for jewelry, belts and scarfs would be a dream wouldn't it?

{owww I just had a thought-I'll keep you posted}

FIVE. To set aside more time to exercise and whip this body into shape after my "little one" arrives.

SIX. To contiune to be inspired by and explore more cultural endeavors {something I rarely have time for since having a family}. This will include reading more novels {including a few classics}, seeing more movies {including vintage flicks}, and attending more art shows and museum exhibits.
